Foster & Coleman recently acted for a client at their trial before Southwark Crown Court in relation to offences of Causing Grievous Bodily Harm with Intent, and an alternative Causing Grievous Bodily Harm. Following a six-day trial our client was acquitted of the ‘Intent’ matter but convicted of Causing Grievous Bodily Harm. The trial judge proceeded straight to sentence and imposed a suspended prison sentence, which was a truly remarkable result in the circumstances.
The client’s family were incredibly relieved and sent the following message:
‘Dear Steve, Although we too are disappointed in the result from the jury, we are absolutely relieved with the outcome as it could have been so much worse. We all wish to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all yours and Steve's guidance through what has been a very tough year or so for our family. We could not have done it without you and you were so great at not only the legal aspects and advice, but also with reassuring M and keeping him positive throughout. Please do pass on our thanks again to Steve Bailey who, as you advised, was a fantastic trial barrister and put our case across incredibly well and really fought for M in all aspects right up until sentencing. We are extremely grateful for all of his hard work as well as yours. It has been great working with you, and hopefully our paths cross again, but only in a social setting this time!’
Trial counsel was Mr Stephen Bailey of Church Court Chambers
