Furlough Extension

Published - May 29, 2020

The Government have recently announced that the current furlough scheme will be extended until October. Whilst this is of course welcome news to many, it has also emerged that from the end of July businesses could have to fund at least a quarter of furloughed workers' pay, even if they remain closed.

A recent survey of 5,000 British companies published by the Federation of Small Businesses suggests that one in three employers are considering, or have already made redundancies in their workforce, and that one in three may never reopen. This of course raises huge concerns over the current proposals for August.

Here at Foster & Coleman our employment law team have been monitoring the ever-changing landscape for both employers and employees and are in the best possible position to provide expert advice and assistance on all of these issues.

Whether you are an employer having to contemplate making the most difficult of decisions, or an individual facing an uncertain future, we are here to help.
